Lights That Lead the Way Out

When the power goes out during a fire or storm, your exit signs and emergency lights guide customers and staff to safety. They’re easy to forget — until an inspector presses the test button and nothing happens.

  • 90-minute annual duration testing
  • Battery and lamp replacement
  • Repair or replacement of failed units

  • Written test records for inspectors

Why It Matters

Testing Is Required — and So Are the Records

NFPA 101, the Life Safety Code, requires battery-powered emergency lighting to be tested regularly, with written records kept on site:

TestHow often
30-second functional testMonthly
90-minute full-duration testAnnually
Per NFPA 101 for battery-powered emergency lighting. Your local fire marshal may have additional requirements.

Batteries in emergency fixtures typically last a few years. A unit that lights up for a few seconds may still fail the 90-minute test — which is why full-duration testing matters.

Questions & Answers

Emergency Exit Lighting FAQ

How often do exit signs and emergency lights need to be tested?

NFPA 101 calls for a 30-second functional test every month and a 90-minute full-duration test every year, with written records of each test.

Our exit sign lights up. Why did it fail inspection?

The battery may not last the full 90 minutes required, or the unit may not switch over properly when power is lost. Our annual testing catches these problems before your inspector does.

Can you install new exit signs?

Yes. We install new exit signs and emergency lights, including combination units, wherever coverage is needed or old fixtures have failed.

Do you provide records for our fire inspection?

Yes. We provide written test records you can keep on site and show your inspector.
